The contribution of organizational intelligence in creating value in companies: the case of European Airlines
Organizational knowledge management distinguishes organizations management within the field of business process management, aiming to sustain knowledge and intelligence towards value creation. The presented research aims to verify if the application of knowledge management within a European airline results in Organizational Intelligence and leads towards value creation, applied via effective and efficient business process management. The approach considers a conceptual reference framework towards Organizational Intelligence creation. The results of the applied methodology sustain a case study approach focusing on the 2014 project portfolio within the IT department of ABC-airline. The executed survey conducts information with specific reference to the present executed projects, applying further methodologies, presented within the conceptual reference framework. A case study approach, aligned with a survey implementation, questions the integration of knowledge management, the creation of value and with reference to business processes, defines the maturity levels – such as ad hoc, defined, standardized, measured, controlled and continuous improvement – within the organization. The survey accesses the degree of process maturity, leading towards a strategic recommendation grounded on the results, which indicate the internal implementation level of knowledge management and business process management. Response of a catalytic reaction to periodic variation of the CO pressure: Increased CO_2 production and dynamic phase transition
We present a kinetic Monte Carlo study of the dynamical response of a
Ziff-Gulari-Barshad model for CO oxidation with CO desorption to periodic
variation of the CO presure. We use a square-wave periodic pressure variation
with parameters that can be tuned to enhance the catalytic activity. We produce
evidence that, below a critical value of the desorption rate, the driven system
undergoes a dynamic phase transition between a CO_2 productive phase and a
nonproductive one at a critical value of the period of the pressure
oscillation. At the dynamic phase transition the period-averged CO_2 production
rate is significantly increased and can be used as a dynamic order parameter.
We perform a finite-size scaling analysis that indicates the existence of
power-law singularities for the order parameter and its fluctuations, yielding
estimated critical exponent ratios and . These exponent ratios, together with theoretical symmetry
arguments and numerical data for the fourth-order cumulant associated with the
transition, give reasonable support for the hypothesis that the observed
nonequilibrium dynamic phase transition is in the same universality class as

Bragg Polaritons: Strong Coupling and Amplification in an Unfolded Microcavity
Periodic incorporation of quantum wells inside a one--dimensional Bragg
structure is shown to enhance coherent coupling of excitons to the
electromagnetic Bloch waves. We demonstrate strong coupling of quantum well
excitons to photonic crystal Bragg modes at the edge of the photonic bandgap,
which gives rise to mixed Bragg polariton eigenstates. The resulting Bragg
polariton branches are in good agreement with the theory and allow
demonstration of Bragg polariton parametric amplification.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Lipidomic Analysis of Immune Activation in Equine Leptospirosis and \u3cem\u3eLeptospira\u3c/em\u3e-Vaccinated Horses
Currently available diagnostic assays for leptospirosis cannot differentiate vaccine from infection serum antibody. Several leptospiral proteins that are upregulated during infection have been described, but their utility as a diagnostic marker is still unclear. In this study, we undertook a lipidomics approach to determine if there are any differences in the serum lipid profiles of horses naturally infected with pathogenic Leptospira spp. and horses vaccinated against a commercially available bacterin. Utilizing a high-resolution mass spectrometry serum lipidomics analytical platform, we demonstrate that cyclic phosphatidic acids, diacylglycerols, and hydroperoxide oxidation products of choline plasmalogens are elevated in the serum of naturally infected as well as vaccinated horses. Other lipids of interest were triacylglycerols that were only elevated in the serum of infected horses and sphingomyelins that were increased only in the serum of vaccinated horses. This is the first report looking at the equine serum lipidome during leptospiral infection and vaccination
Children of prisoners: exploring the impact of families' reappraisal of the role and status of the imprisoned parent on children's coping strategies
Qualitative data from a larger study on the impact of parental imprisonment in four countries found that children of prisoners face fundamentally similar psychological and social challenges. The ways that children cope, however, are influenced by the interpretative frame adopted by the adults around them, and by how issues of parental imprisonment are talked about in their families. This article argues that families have to reappraise their view of the imprisoned parent and then decide on their policy for how to deal with this publicly. Their approach may be based on openness and honesty or may emphasise privacy and secrecy, or a combination of these. Children are likely to be influenced by their parents'/carers' views, although these may cause conflict for them. Where parents/carers retain a positive view of the imprisoned parent, children are likely to benefit; where parents/carers feel issues of shame and stigma acutely, this is likely to be transmitted to their children. This is important for social workers and practitioners involved in supporting prisoners' families and for parenting programmes
Spontaneous Polarisation Build up in a Room Temperature Polariton Laser
We observe the build up of strong (~50%) spontaneous vector polarisation in
emission from a GaN-based polariton laser excited by short optical pulses at
room temperature. The Stokes vector of emitted light changes its orientation
randomly from one excitation pulse to another, so that the time-integrated
polarisation remains zero. This behaviour is completely different to any
previous laser. We interpret this observation in terms of the spontaneous
symmetry breaking in a Bose-Einstein condensate of exciton-polaritons
Energetics and Vibrational States for Hydrogen on Pt(111)
We present a combination of theoretical calculations and experiments for the
low-lying vibrational excitations of H and D atoms adsorbed on the Pt(111)
surface. The vibrational band states are calculated based on the full
three-dimensional adiabatic potential energy surface obtained from first
principles calculations. For coverages less than three quarters of a monolayer,
the observed experimental high-resolution electron peaks at 31 and 68meV are in
excellent agreement with the theoretical transitions between selected bands.
Our results convincingly demonstrate the need to go beyond the local harmonic

Security Evaluation of Support Vector Machines in Adversarial Environments
Support Vector Machines (SVMs) are among the most popular classification
techniques adopted in security applications like malware detection, intrusion
detection, and spam filtering. However, if SVMs are to be incorporated in
real-world security systems, they must be able to cope with attack patterns
that can either mislead the learning algorithm (poisoning), evade detection
(evasion), or gain information about their internal parameters (privacy
breaches). The main contributions of this chapter are twofold. First, we
introduce a formal general framework for the empirical evaluation of the
security of machine-learning systems. Second, according to our framework, we
demonstrate the feasibility of evasion, poisoning and privacy attacks against
SVMs in real-world security problems. For each attack technique, we evaluate
its impact and discuss whether (and how) it can be countered through an
adversary-aware design of SVMs. Our experiments are easily reproducible thanks
to open-source code that we have made available, together with all the employed

The Static and Dynamic Lattice Changes Induced by Hydrogen Adsorption on NiAl(110)
Static and dynamic changes induced by adsorption of atomic hydrogen on the
NiAl(110) lattice at 130 K have been examined as a function of adsorbate
coverage. Adsorbed hydrogen exists in three distinct phases. At low coverages
the hydrogen is itinerant because of quantum tunneling between sites and
exhibits no observable vibrational modes. Between 0.4 ML and 0.6 ML, substrate
mediated interactions produce an ordered superstructure with c(2x2) symmetry,
and at higher coverages, hydrogen exists as a disordered lattice gas. This
picture of how hydrogen interacts with NiAl(110) is developed from our data and

Senescence Is the Main Trait Induced by Temozolomide in Glioblastoma Cells.
First-line drug in the treatment of glioblastoma, the most severe brain cancer, is temozolomide (TMZ), a DNA-methylating agent that induces the critical damage O <sup>6</sup> -methylguanine (O <sup>6</sup> MeG). This lesion is cytotoxic through the generation of mismatch repair-mediated DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), which trigger apoptotic pathways. Previously, we showed that O <sup>6</sup> MeG also induces cellular senescence (CSEN). Here, we show that TMZ-induced CSEN is a late response which has similar kinetics to apoptosis, but at a fourfold higher level. CSEN cells show a high amount of DSBs, which are located outside of telomeres, a high level of ROS and oxidized DNA damage (8-oxo-guanine), and sustained activation of the DNA damage response and histone methylation. Despite the presence of DSBs, CSEN cells are capable of repairing radiation-induced DSBs. Glioblastoma cells that acquired resistance to TMZ became simultaneously resistant to TMZ-induced CSEN. Using a Tet-On glioblastoma cell system, we show that upregulation of MGMT immediately after TMZ completely abrogated apoptosis and CSEN, while induction of MGMT long-term (&gt;72 h) after TMZ did not reduce apoptosis and CSEN. Furthermore, upregulation of MGMT in the senescent cell population had no impact on the survival of senescent cells, indicating that O <sup>6</sup> MeG is required for induction, but not for maintenance of the senescent state. We further show that, in recurrent GBM specimens, a significantly higher level of DSBs and CSEN-associated histone H3K27me3 was observed than in the corresponding primary tumors.
